Ethan and Logan come to visit!
Little Helper
Grandpa has been staying with us for the past several weeks, helping out around the house while we get adjusted to life with two little ones. We decided to take on a rather ambitious project: renovate the 1970's-era bathroom in the "guest wing" and add a shower stall.Nora has had lots of fun helping out with various stages of the project, from demolition, to painting, to installing a new faucet. In this picture, she's in the garage helping me to paint the new bathroom door.

Nic's one moth stats
Weight: 8 pounds 9.5 ounces (up up 1 lb 13.5 oz) 25th percentile
Length: 21.25 inches (up 2.25 in) 50th percentile
Doing everything he should be! For all you teachers out there, I have been extremely relieved to see Nicolas making direct eye contact with people! YEAH!
Nic also showed us a glimpse of a couple of smiles this morning. I can't wait to see those gums staring back at me!

One Month Old
Nicolas Scott is one month old tomorrow! This month has gone quickly and very slow all at the same time :-)
Nic now weighs over 8 pounds (I'll get the exact stats tomorrow at his appointment) and eats like a champ. I'm trying to keep up with the milk, but have to supplement every once in a while. He gets quite frustrated eating directly from me, so I'm pumping everything and feeding it to him through a bottle. He's taking 4 ounces at a time. Last week he was acting as if he was hungry every hour to hour and a half, would chug a bottle, and then projectile vomit about three to four feet across the room. After taking Nic to the doctor, she told us that babies just need to suck all the time. This was news to us as Nora did not have this instinct until quite a bit later in her life. It's amazing how different the two can be (other than their appearance that is).
Nic is waking up one or two times during the night right now. Brian is taking the first feeding and I'm doing the second. Nic is also a lover of the Miracle Blanket (did anyone hear the reference to the Miracle Blanket on Brothers and Sisters on Sunday night?).
Nic's favorite position at the moment is in the Moby carrier (the big long piece of fabric that is intricately wrapped around me and then he is placed inside right against my chest). He stays quite calm while in there. He also likes the sling when we are on the go. The sling is much more convenient to get him in and out, but he seems to prefer the Moby which wraps him much tighter. We have a mini-Moby for Nora to wear and carry around her babies!
Nicolas loves to take a bath. He kicks and screams when he's naked and cold until placed in the tub. We have one of those baby bath tubs that has a sling inside that he can lay in and be almost completely covered with water. He calms down the second he hits the water and seems annoyed when I take him out of the bath.
All in all, the first month of having our new family member around has been wonderful. I was quite worried about being able to love another baby as much as I love Nora, but I was pleasantly surprised. It is just like a colleague told me, when you have another baby, you simply grow another heart! On the other hand, I was told a funny analogy for how Nora must feel: It is like bring home your lover and saying to your spouse, "This is my lover and he is going to live with us now. You'll get used to him in time and eventually come to love him just as much as me!"

A Quick Note
Sorry I haven't written much lately...been a little busy :-)
* Nic is eating like a champ! I'm pumping most everything so Brian and I can split the duties at night. He's eating 4 ounces every two to three hours...we're waiting for those stretches to become a bit longer at night to no avail.
*Nic's baby acne is at it's height. I think only relatives will think he's beautiful right now. It must be hard getting used to the 'elements' outside of the womb!
* On the weigh in on our bathroom scale yesterday, Nic weighed 8 pounds and Nora weighed 30.5. We've got two wonderful eaters in this house...make that four (including Mommy and Daddy). It only took Nora three years to enjoy eating, but we finally got her there.
* Nora is doing famously with Nic, but taking out her jealousy issues on her parents. "No" has become her favorite word and she does most anything she wants. The timeout chair is starting to get a bit worn.
* After our third attempt at creating baby announcements, we finally got it right. They will be addressed and stamped this week.
* Nora is going to stay with her Auntie Pea from Wednesday until Saturday in Ellensburg! Mommy and Daddy are eternally grateful!
* The guest bathroom is getting a face lift. A new shower is being added so our guests don't have to tramp through the garage to get clean.

Weeeeeeeeeeeee!
Nora went to 3-2-1 Bounce on Monday to play with Grandpa on the big inflatable playground. There are a couple of places like this in the area which seem to be an absolute hit with the kiddos.Nora had no fear, climbing up and sliding down some pretty large slides!

First Bath
Nora's Snowman

Today we awoke to see our yard covered with snow. Nora and I put together the season's first snowman (snowgirl?) in our backyard. Unfortunately we weren't the only ones to see snow today...the winter storm warnings in Waterloo and Minneapolis kept Grandpa grounded. We hope the weather will be more cooperative tomorrow!
