Bern

On Saturday we went to Bern.  Bern is the capital of Switzerland.  It is 1.5 hours away from our house.  We started walking around when we got there, and we found this:

This picture is of a church in the middle of Bern.

This is me and my Mom walking close to another clock.  There are about 10 clocks in Bern.

This is the back of what we just saw.  This is an old-fashioned kind of clock that tells the time, and the date, and the zodiac signs.

On the back of what we saw.  This one does the same thing, but, the only thing that is different is that there are animal statues beside the clock.  They move when the clock strikes at the hour.

This is me and my Daddy next to the fountain.  That pole next to us is a statue of a man eating babies.

This is a picture of me and my mom, and me acting like a bear.  We are acting like bears because we are inside the bear garden, which actually has a living bear in it.  The bear is the symbol of Bern, because the first animal that the first people caught and killed here was a bear.  That is where Bern got its name from...the German word for bear is Bär.

Father's Day Weekend Camping Trip

This weekend we ventured out of Seattle to escape the cold and rain. We managed to stay dry until the middle of the night on Saturday. Nora learned that she LOVES to play frisbee so Brian and I spent most of our time alternating as her throwing/catching partner. We enjoyed some yummy steaks and Nora helped me make a red wine reduction sauce over our "meth lab" stove (as we call our camping stove). All in all, we had a blast and had some great Daddy time!

Our Weekly Hike - Lakes Talapus and Olallie

This week our hike took us to an Alpine lake near Snoqualmie Pass. We hiked up to nearly 4000 ft and got to see snow and copious amount of mud on the way. The reward was having a picnic lunch by Olallie Lake and watching the ice melt in the 70 degree sun. Nora is a fabulous hiker and she always leads the way. She has become very proud of her ability to plan where her feet go on a muddy or wet trail. Go motor planning abilities! Check out the mud on her pants and hiking boots!

Preschool Graduation Celebration

'

What a fun final event at Nora's preschool. They put on a little production for us where they sang songs, were presented their 'diplomas', and read books. Nora and her best friend Karina were two of the four children that are able to read to the crowd. It was a very proud moment for Brian and I!

Daddy comes bearing gifts

Daddy is finally home after a 2 week trip to London, Paris, New Delhi, and Tokyo. He brought us some beautiful gifts, but this is Nora's favorite!

New Family Pics

Last weekend we had our family pictures taken by Lisa Sorbe. The setting was an open field in Bothell, on a beautiful Saturday morning. The ubiquitous Scottish broom plants were in full bloom with brilliant yellow flowers.
